The culture of Maya people has my deep respect. We visited 10 lost cities in the south of Yucatan peninsula, near the border to Guatemala, certainly not touristic places as in the north. In places like Calakmul (7000 houses still covered by the jungle), Kohunlich, Rio Bec, Chicanna or this one (Becan) you can see phantastic pyramids, temples, sport fields and houses.
As we visited places of different periods, I discovered that the style of architecture has developed very similar to the European history. In the beginning massiv and simple buildings ("romanic"), then more complicated, vertical structures ("gothic", for example Rio Bec), then at the zenith of culture very broad and ornamental buildings ("baroque") and finally simple and clear structures again ("modernism").

I know that this scan from a slide is not of outstanding quality, but it gives an impression of this majestic building.
