My Oh Maya Part 12

In 1998, as the crackdown on the EZLN continued in Chiapas, the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) was gaining power around the country, and, in less than two years, would elect its first president in Vincente Fox Quesada, breaking the 80-year monopoly on power held by the PRI. The change in power would be irrelevant for the indígenas of Chiapas, however. They would continue to place their hopes and trust in the Zapatistas.

Here you see a young girl I befriended during a sunshower in San Cristóbal de las Casas, both of us blissfully ignoring politics for the moment.

35mm scanned with Nikon V ED scanner.
