Photographer's Note

The Centennial Hall reflected in the pond. There is a very nice photo of the fountain here. But when I visited in November last year the fountain was switched off and the pond half empty.

Still, there was enough water to photograph the Hall with the reflection, but I struggled to take this photo. When standing on the bank of the pond I was too far to include the whole of the reflection. Ideally, I would have liked to walk into the pond (since it was dry anyway and the concrete bottom suitable for that kind of stroll). However, walking into the basin was "strictly forbidden" as the ubiquitous signs firmly stated. That, in itself, would not have been enough to put me off but, alas, there was also a security guard present, who kept walking past me every 30 seconds or so. Fortunately I came up with an alternative idea before the light started to fade - I extended the centre column of my tripod and took that image from heights well above my head. Just enough to include the reflection of the dome! :-)
