Photographer's Note

This photo was taken at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in South Boston. This is an an area that has long had a concentration of immigrants from Poland. In memory of Pope John Paul II, there was a mass and candlight procession, with liturgy entirely in Polish. The wooden church was filled to capacity. Some people had to stay outside, walking toddlers or, occasionally, kneeling on concrete stairs at the church entrance. The shot above was taken after the service, when almost everyone had left. By then, there were more candles than people.
