Photographer's Note
The mud is obvious while the blood is from stepping on a water acorn (sharply pointed aquatic plant) and the beer was pain relief and St. Patrick's Day celebrating.
Managed to get out on the Mohawk River for the first paddle of 2009. Spotted a small river otter that I missed with my camera because of the noise my paddle made when in haste I dropped it to click a picture.
The water temp was about the same as the beer temp and the mud so thick I lost a shoe getting out of the kayak

Hey Tom,
"The Mud, The Blood & The Beer" quite a combination!
Sounds like an unforgettable experience, thankfully the beer was there to help! I am glad you just lost a shoe and not your camera ;)
Best,

Good morning, Tom.
As long as there's beer! LOL!!! Looks like a real cool place to spend time on the water, pretty similar to this Natural Reservation we got over here, just north of town. Nice and straightfoward shot, fine comprehensive framing and a lovely soft light its main features. You guys have a good day, I'll see y'all later.
Fulvio.

Hello Tom,
Intriguing title, just as well you explained it ;-) I like the composition, which is nicely balanced. The man dragging the kayak is well placed and adds a nice dash of colour. Very good sharpness.

Hello Tom,
It sounds as if you had a wonderful time!
I do believe mud is very good for the skin!
The focal man, with his attractively matching clothes and kayak, is well placed in the shot and his boat points the way nicely towards the following boat.
A very well composed shot, nice emphasis on the dark, textured MUD!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Tom,
A pleasure is not a real pleasure unless you have to sacrifice to get to it, hahaha!
Otherwise I notice your spring is far more advanced than mine...
This is a fine seasonal report!

Hello Tom,
Estupenda composición y una nota muy simpática. Aunque el barro te hizo perder el zapato y el agua estaba helada, no te impidió sacar esta magnífica imagen.
Saludos cordiales,
Charo

Hello Tom! What an adventure, we are glad to have you back :))) It looks ice cold, I can see some snow-ice patches on the ground. So you are in mud season now, I heard this is pretty famous for this area. Nice "still winter" mood with empty trees and pale skies. The yellow kayaks give some color back, great to have them in the picture. Yes a beer, this does good and you feel like you had "survived" something, I always like this kind of feeling. Have a great day, Barbara.

So you could resume your kayak...
This river is lovely with its low and flat banks covered with canes and trees and the scene you have captured is fine and quite dynamic with one kayak arriving and the other one already on the ground. I like also the warm afternoon light that makes everything seems so tender. good diagonal from left to right.
Best greetings,
Donato

Hi Tom,
So Happy St Paddy's day - at least there was beer, YOU got to see the river otter and paddle your kayak -
I really do like the soft, natural colors and the way you got the fellow pulling his canoe to line up so nicely with the paddler; great framing!!
What I can't envision is how you got such a nice shot as you were hopping around on one foot with your bare foot bleeding merrily. That is real dedication to photography!!

Hello Tom, It was the title of this shot that got me in, made me little curious. I little adventure that by the sounds of things ended OK, with good spirit ;-). The good news for me is that it ended well & it sounds like you guys also like your beer cold unlike the British who tend to drink it at room temp.
Nice little story enhanced by a lovely image. Not so much snow around these days, must be the last?
Thanks
Take care
Santo
