Photographer's Note
I had taken a ferry trip through Southeast Alaska in the late 70's, before most of you were born :-)!! There was practically nothing I could recognize from that time. However, Haines is most like my memories of that trip. Because the criuse ships all go to Skagway, little Haines has developed from a few rough buildings on a dirt road to a charming artsy town.
On the ferry, we saw a girl with a bumper sticker saying, “I love my country, but we’ve got to start seeing other people.” Her recommendation for a restaurant was the Fireweed. It was a good reccomendation, a real community gathering place; in fact we saw her there later on.
We stopped to ask directions from a fellow wearing a t-shirt that said, “I just love the sound of those deadlines as they go swooshing by,” that seemed to be the attitude in this very laid-back community and the attitude I remember from the 70's.
Skagway on the other hand is a VERY upscale shopping center, like Aspen and Jackson Hole.

Hello Patricia,
This is a beautiful shot! The colours are amazing and view is great. I love the early morning or late evening sunlight reflection on the snowcapped mountains. The ferry is a great addition in this photo! Great composition and well captured.
The only comment I have on here is that this photo is just a bit too dark. I created a workshop on this photo to brighten it up just a bit...I hope you don't mind!
Greetings,
Ann

Hi Patricia,
Wonderful scenery with these impressive mountains in the background which seem to dwarf the ferry. The colours are beautiful and the low light is superb. Well done!

Serwus Patricia !
Idea of framing and composition is very proffesional and could not be better. However this is the pinkish light on the ridge and clouds that make this scenery so delightful. I think, the slightly underexposure work perfectly here (i do like the darker images)because it helps to focus on the mountains and add to the atmosphere. The ship is just in the right point while crossing strait and heading for the unknown.
Brilliant Work, Pat, honestly.

Hi patricia,
Another great landscape.
I love the pink tones on the sky and on the top of the mountains.
And the ferry add an extra beauty to the image.

Hi Patricia,
Just beautiful. Lovely sunset colours. Good panoramic composition, and timing with the ship just about to disappear behind an inlet.
No wonder cruise ships are a big business there!
(I wonder where I could find such a t-shirt.)

Hi Pat,
You've posted some lovely images since I last looked...especially the one of Klamath Lake! This one is also very nice and that light you've caught on the peaks is just fantasic. The rest of the image is nice and soft and I like the low light and shadows. The ferry has added character as it is about to round that corner.

The light and colour on this are lovely; I don't mind the darkness at all. The timing was just right to catch the ferry in a good place to work with your composition.

Hi Patricia,
Beautiful photo of this sunset with the sea and the mountains.
It is a magnificent landscape, of great beauty, and the light of this hour increases his showiness.
The photo has good exposure, the colors are very beautiful, and the framing is perfect.
The ship gives us the reference of the dimensions of this nice place.

Josep

Beautiful scenery, Pat, well shown in this panoramic format. The reddish sunlight falling on the snow-capped mountain range gives a special touch and seems to emphasize the grandeur of the landscape. The ferry is ideally placed in the scene, adding interest and scale. It could be a wee bit brighter but in Ann's WS it turned out too bright for my personal liking.

Good grief Patricia what a shot!! I like the fight between the warm light on top with the cold looking water. The landscape sure dwarfs the ferry. I bet this would be nice as a hi-res panoramic. Wonderful shot Pat!!

I like this one too. Nice mix of the cold and warm colours, and I like the line of the wedge of very dark land coming in from the right. It also helps create a sense of depth. The ship is very well placed in the composition. I also like Ann's workshop.

Hi Pat,
Wonderful image, in fact two images (which could stand alone) in one. I love the jagged moutains with their warm red hue, and the cool smooth blue of the ocean. The white ferry adds a real point of interest. Speaking as some one who was working to deadlines in the 70's, (and still is). At the moment, i'm still in Skagway. Hoping to move to Haines very shortly!!!It sounds like my kind of town!!

John

Pat,
After 195 views and 60 points, I have no much more original words to add about this wonderful shot.
This is pure Alaska, isn't it?
Too big a frame.

Hi Patricia
Excellent composition with the ship heading behind the point towards the pink mountains. Your format makes it more dynamic. The clouds really liven up the sky.

Great composition, Pat, and perfect exposure for this light. In my view Ann's workshop washes the sky out and destroys the mood of this, so I much prefer your original. Cheers . . . David

Hi Pat,
Beautiful pink mountain tops with great shadows work magic as they head up the valley. Sorry to hear Skagway is turning into a tourist trap, although a shopping trip there from the lower 48 should not be taken lightly.
