Photographer's Note

Built in 1927, the Gillespie Dam Bridge's construction was made all-weather travel of the Southern Transcontinental route possible for the first time. The bridge has 9 steel-truss spans and is 1,662 feet (506.6 metres) long. Refurbished in 2011, the bridge has both height and weight restrictions.

The interstate road has since been rerouted and this section between Arlington and Gila Bend is now known as Old US 80. Since the rerouting, the road now hosts sparse local and tourist traffic, allowing me to squat on the center stripe for this photo.
