Photographer's Note

As always, the photo will look better if you open it in a separate tab.

North of Cameron, driving on the highway US89, you pass through an area of eroded and eroding sandstone whose colors, especially at dawn or dusk are mesmerizing. I was lucky to reach the area at dawn this day and pulled onto the verge for a bit of photography.

The highway is bounded by a fence on either side, with the reservation on the other side. As the Navajo nation was in lockdown and it's not permitted to hike on the reservation without a permit and/or guide, I stayed on the highway's land.

This photo was taken on the east side of the highway, behind the sandstone mounds. I only noticed the "devil's face" when editing the expedition's photos.
