Photographer's Note

This is the Horseshoe Bend, this area is just south of Lake Powell and the Colorado River that we see here flows right into the Grand Canyon just a few miles downstream. This is part of Glen Canyon and the Colorado River downstream from Glen canyon Dam, which holds back Lake Powell. It is within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and it's worth taking a camera. There is a small trail from the road takes you the edge and if you want to go down to the river, bring climbing gear or a parachute....

Hi Paul, good view of the famous Horseshoe.
the POV is fantastic as the quality and the long view on the canyon and on the distant mounts.
the WS is really ineresting to have a real dimension of that natural monument!

Hi Paul,
I have been there myself a few weeks ago and the view is awesome. You need a extreme wide-angle to get the whole view in one frame, and it seems that on a 1.6 sensor such as the 20D the 17 is not wide enough to show the whole canyon bend.
Nevertheless i like your image, it has deep saturated colours, which i like a lot.

Une petite derniere avant de fermer boutique... J'aime bien ici le PoV qui permet d'apprecier cette etonnante formation naturelle, et une fois qu'on a vu le bateau on se sent vraiment petit. Je partage l'avis deja exprime qu'il te faut un 10-22 pour noel, voila une bonne idee cadeau !
Pffff c'est bôôôôô quand meme c'te coin !

An impressive view of this magnificent scene; indeed, it is one of the best I have seen, as the lighting is perfect, and there is a great sense of depth and proportion conveyed. I like how you have minimalazied the sky. Very fine work, Paul. This is a gem.

Good colours. You have a very nice light here.
Quite a good composition with small suggestion.
I think that you should aim your camera a little bit lower to capture whole river at th bottom instead of small amount of sky at top.

Superbe image de ce méandre creusé par le Colorado dans les grès continentaux. La photo est superbe tant pour son esthétique que pour la géologie. Les fractures qui se sont propagées dans la roches sont superbement rendues et on imagine aussi que la rivière aura un jour abandonné ce fer a cheval pour 'tirer tout droit' au point le plus creusé au fil des dizaines de milliers d'années. Lumière optimale et superbe contraste. Merci du partage!

Hi Paul,
As there are many version of this place here in TE, it's interesting to compare them. I think on this one you have optimal direction of light. Very good exposure, natural colours and polarizer shows the sky well.

Imagine de la verdure à la place de la roche et tu obtiendras le méandre de Queuille sur la rivière Sioule en Auvergne une forme identique.
Ton point de vue est parfaitement choisi, le panorama est spectaculaire.
J'apprécie beaucoup.

Hi Paul. Very nice photo from Horseshoe Bend; the disposition of the sunlight works really nicely here to illuminate the textural details and degradations of color that are present in the unique formations. Good framing with a minimal amount of sky versus the scenic canyon landscape underneath. Be sure to purchase a wider-angle lens before you go there next time ;o)

Cher Paul,
Tu dois bien te douter que ce n'est pas la première fois que je vois une photo de ce fameux fer à cheval américain. Mais, c'est la première fois qu'une photo me donne une idée de la grandeur réelle du lieu. Et j'ai soudainement le vertige! Je veux bien croire qu'il s'agit d'un "small fishing boat", mais juste ce petit point blanc-là, je te jure ça me donne tout un effet!
C'est bien beau le "grand angle", mais encore faut-il pouvoir se le payer. Des heures supplémentaires en vue? ;)
Là, tu vas sans doute rigoler de mon ignorance flagrante et impardonnable, mais comment il fait le petit bateau de pêche pour se retrouver là si le seul moyen de descendre à la river c'est l'escalade ou le parachute? :D

je me rappelle avoir vu cette photo par le biais de ton WS que j'avais remarqué dans les ateliers, par contre je trouvais comme un voile dans ton image.
Et puis au niveau cadrage, il est dommage de ne pas avoir pu prendre plus le méandre en bas.
Je te propose un WS essentiellement pour les couleurs.
