Photographer's Note

I was cruising the California Coast near Huntington Beach when I decided to pull over on Pacific Coast Highway. There was an already faint sunset (perhaps due to the wonderful smog we get here in Cali), so I decided to enhane it using a Cokin tobacco graduated filter.

I was shooting chrome (slides) at the time and what I had loaded in my Nikon FM2 was Fuji RVP 50 (Velvia). I took about 8 shots to capture the one with the seagull "just right".

If you look closly in the horizon, you can see a faint mountain ridge. That would be Catalina Island some 26 miles off the coast of California. The main city is Avalon (1 square mile) of shops and apartments. Not much to do in Catalina, but hang out on the beach or shop. But if you're ever in Southern California, it might make for a nice day trip via ferry.
