Photographer's Note
I believe this to be a Ruddy Turnstone, though many sandpipers look similar, they sometimes seek distictively different areas. This little guy was busily searching about the rocky tidal pools grabbing little morsels and then moving along. I like the brightly colored kelp and other grasses in this picture too.

Hi Ned. These little guys look to be tough to shoot and I'd say you did a good job. Too bad one of the AF points didn't make it onto the bird. Still a great shot Ned!

THe picture is very good.
Indeed the grass and the kelp colours are nice, though could confuse the eye as they atract too much atention.
It was a good decition to focus sharply in the bird, leaving the rest of the scene blury,
Good catch,

Hi Ned. Very nice piece of bird photography you managed here - good how the little guy is hit by the streak of light. The bird is also well positioned in the frame, and having him be surrounded by the colorful foliage and grasses certainly makes for a pleasant setting. The other one in the back (upper left corner) seems to have had an urge to peek into your frame, too :-P
