The Pawnee Buttes, a photo from Colorado, West

Photographer's Note

The Pawnee Buttes are two prominent buttes located within the Pawnee National Grassland in Weld County, of northeastern Colorado. Rising approximately 300 feet (100 m) above the surrounding plains, the buttes are erosional remnants left standing in isolation as the surrounding High Plains surface has gradually worn away. The lower portions of the buttes are composed of relatively soft, clay-rich sedimentary rock called the Brule formation. The Brule formation is protected by an overlying layer of sandstone and conglomerate sediments called the Arikaree formation, which are more resistant to weathering. (Wikipedia)

Bonjour,

Plus que le paysage, c est le ciel et les nuages qui font la photo. Quelle presence avec en plus le jeux des ombres sur la plaine et en fond, les buttes bien au soleil.
La photo est bien composée avec notamment un bon usage de ce premier plan pour etager les plans en profondeur.

Hi Emmanuel,

Amazing sky! Those buttes are impressive but the big sky makes them look very small. Interesting composition - I would have been tempted to use a horizontal format but that would probably have put less focus on those wonderful clouds and that incredible blue sky.
Great job, thanks for sharing! I've never visited this area but when I see this shot, I think I have to put it on my list of places to visit.

I see a similarity between this and the one of me you have critiqued. Emphasising the sky in a vertical shot, specially when it's a beautiful day is a good option. We both know about that :) Very attractive photo. The depth is really good and the colors are as I like. Well done!

A singular landscape made even more intriguing by those fine clouds and a deep blue sky. I like the vertical composition and how the clouds are in diagonal. Well chosen and achieved.

Hey Emmanuel!
Great landscape shot! I like the wide angle used here, that enhances the depth of the picture (goes quite nicely). The distant twin buttes are located in the center of the frame such that there is a good balance between earth and sky. I wish, though, that you could have got closer to the lip of the cliff so you could take the scene without the cliff lip.

Very interesting framing with the blue sky & those fluffy clouds occupying 3/4 of the image...and why not? The Pawnee Buttes are interesting details or subjects in this picture. Also like the shadow of the cloud in the FG. Well done!
