Photographer's Note
This is my third (and last) post from the Red Mountain Pass on the Million Dollar Highway en route to Ouray with John & Joanne Munro, and where we spent the night. This one hasn’t got yellow aspen or the unusual red rock of Red Mountain, but it has got the best light, and it is my favourite of the three.
It was taken at Yankee Girl Mine, but with my back to the mine and Red Mountain. While everyone else was busy trying different focal lengths and compositions on Yankee Girl Mine and the head frame, I turned in the other direction and this is the view I saw.

Hi Kath,
Beware it's not trendy to cumulate boni in these times of financial crisis ;-)
I like this one too despite its price, very luminous, nice clouds in the sky and warm tones on the mountain to contrast against the greens & blues..
Have a nice sunday JY

Hello Kath,
It's always worth while looking the other way ;-) This shot is no exception - a very good capture of this interesting landscape. I like the point of view you have chosen with peak placed slightly off centre. Interesting red/green tonal contrasts. Although slightly saturated the colours look natural and make a pleasing palette across the image. Excellent sharpness.

Good morning Kath!
These colours simply a amazing and the whole scenery is breathtaking - also your last pictures. You have had a wonderful favorable light to emphasize this miracle of nature and the sky also helps to accent these incredible sight.
Greetings from cold Germany where it snows - have a nice Sunday!

Hello Kath,
J'aime beaucoup le dégradé de couleurs le long des flancs de cette très belle montagne.
L'alliance des rouges , du vert et de certaine parties jaunes est vraiment excellente.
Un très beau paysage.

Hi Kath
We're both in Colorado tonight! The copper coloured mountain contrasts well against the blue sky. A superb upward pov, with good sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Kath,
An another very nice view to the Red Mountain. I like here the prospect with the fir trees which go up on the sides of the mountains.
Colours, contrasts, balance, details well collected, harmony in the colours... an another image full of qualities.

Hello Kath,
This landscape inspires a great sensation of freedom, its forests are magnificent and its mountains offer us a great majesty and a great beauty.
The framing is very elegant and reinforces the showiness of the image, I like the luminosity and the colors that you have caught in your good photographic work.
The snow newly fallen in the summits is a nice graphical complement.
Excellent composition.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hello Kath! And here comes the blue!!! After the rain some sunshine. We spent the night in Ouray too but a little outside in a tent. During the day it was pleasant but I was wearing socks in my sleeping bag at night :))) It was below zero, the water was frozen in the morning. Again a beautiful photo with the huge trees in front. The sky with this mix between blue and white is really attractive. Nice to browse through these things on a grey Sunday like today ... making plans, but also looking back ... Enjoy your Sunday! Hi, Kath.
With this post and the two previous ones we can safely state you got the best of both worlds at Red Mountain Pass. In my opinion : the perfect, subtle amount of polarization for another wonderful display of lighting and colors and a majestic feel of peaceful harmony. Love the framing and everything in it... moody in the unique Rocky Mountains way and VERY elegant. Makes me wish I was still there... A tip of the hat to you! Have a good day, I'll see you soon.
Fulvio.

Hi Kath,
Both the close up of the head frame and this shot of
the view in the opposite direction are smashing. Pity
you don't have a photo that would show even wider view
of these mountains and lovely contrast between the green
of the various pine trees and the orange/red of the soil.
Going through all these photos must evoke many memories,
no?
Cheers,
Robi
PS. Has it already started snowing up there? - we're
getting some right now!

Hello Kath,
More blue in the sky as the previous one, therefor i prefer this one i think, also because of the wider view and those patches of sunlight against the mountain. The scattered trees also work very nice for depth and scaling on that huge mountain....great shot.

Hi, Kath -
Definitely a classic Colorado mountain shot - the clouds, the sky, the light on the mountain top. You can feel the power of the mountain here. It's amazing how many people miss the interesting stuff because they're too busy shooting the obvious.
Best,

Hello Kath,
A great pov with the tall trees in the f/g leading the way, like an army on the move, up the mountainside, towards the summit goal.
The dof is spot on, allowing us to enjoy every detail.
Excellent, sharp focus and a very good light. There are just enough clouds in the sky to give the interesting shadows which assist in defining the contours.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Olá Kath, I might agree with you in spite of the yellow aspen on the first one of the series is still amazing me. Not sure if it's the best light but it's definately the best general view showing the beautiful change of colors all around from the peak to the greenny FG. And there's also some blue sky which is always great and a nice play of shadows from the clouds. Impressive place.

Hi Kath,
I hope you have coped well with the snow these days. Knowing about your fascination for cold weather, I imagine you must be very happy. :D>
Like Stephen wrote, sometimes it is very rewarding to look the other way. The others are also great, but this is the most attractive, even if the sky and light are less dramatic and it lacks the aspen dressed for Autumn.
The compo is spotless and the colours and light absolutely superb.

Hi Kath,
Still a marvellous sight of this top to the varied colors. I find that here the sky gives a beautiful effect of relief to the image. Hello Kath
IMO this is a better view than your earlier post of this place. The light is good & you even got the shadow of the low cloud which looks great. Barren peaks are otherwise not photogenic, but this one, thanks to the mineral colours is. Well done!
