Photographer's Note

Skiing down into Yankee Boy Basin, near Ouray, Colorado.

Colorado is known for its excellent spring skiing. In the springtime, the sunny days heat and melt the snowpack, and the high altitude cold nights freeze it up again. This continuous cycle naturally grooms the snow to a nice smooth surface. We hike up in the morning while the snow is still frozen and hard, and the ski or snowboard down between 10-noon when the surface of the snow has melted enough to become nice and soft.

I've posted a bunch of my other hiking and skiing/snowboarding photo from this spring here.
