Photographer's Note

Today I decided to take a drive up to Mount Hood and Timberline Lodge. The drive takes about 1 1/2 hours from my house, but it was well worth the trip. At home today and around much of the state of Oregon the temperatures were over 95 degrees so the 78 degrees at the mountain were a much needed relief, I hated to come back down.

My hiking partner and youngest daughter Malia went with me, she seems to always be up for anything. It was a beautiful sunny day, the wildflowers were very beautiful, purplish lupine, purple asters, yellow sulpher-buckwheat and others.

Mt. Hood: Mount Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon (11,237 feet) and popular with skiers, hikers, and climbers. It is 45 miles east-southeast of Portland, Oregon. The Oregon Trail crosses over Mount Hood via the Barlow Road. Year-round recreation for all skill levels stretches from the mountain (skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing) to rivers and lakes (white-water rafting, kayaking, fishing and swimming) to trails (mountain biking, hiking, climbing and horseback riding) and other activities such as golfing and camping.
