Photographer's Note

I spent most of my youth in a town called Bryn Athyn, which is in the suburbs about 30 minutes from center city, Philadelphia. The town is rich in culture, and still has enough open space that it feels almost rural in some spots.

We had one of the most dramatic ice storms I can remember in that area on January 13th, 1994, immediately after which the clouds blew over and the sun came out. Needless to say I grabbed my camera (actually it was my Dad's camera back then), and went walking about town enjoying the sparkling wonderland.

This is a scanned image I originally took with the Minolta. The building in the background was originally someone's home. It's called Cairncrest. During the time I lived in the area, Cairncrest - along with its 2 sister buildings built by other Pitcairn family members - had been donated to the local church. I spent many hours wandering the grounds of all three 'homes', but I worked at Cairncrest while it housed the office of education, so I grew to know the building and grounds intimately.

The other two Pitcairn 'homes' in the area are Cairnwood and Glencairn. All three buildings are historic and worth seeing, and Glencairn is actually a museum open to the public.
