Photographer's Note

Kath Featherstone (Feather) and her husband Rob were in Monterey the other day, winding up a long trip around the South Pacific. Jean and I offered to meet them between here and there, and we met for lunch and photos in Santa Cruz at the north end of Monterey Bay.

We had lunch on the municipal pier and then went walking. Noontime is not the best time for photos, as it flattens the light, but one of the things I've learned lately is there is no such thing as bad light; one should be able to find something in any kind of lighting. (I'm not completely convinced of this, by the way.) Anyway, I spotted this bit of stairway and shadow, and was taken by the combination of strong primary colors and strong noonday sunlight, and the shadow lines it created.

Technical: Minor sharpening and contrast adjustment in RAW; minor cropping.
