Photographer's Note
Maybe you’ve seen this before. Maybe you haven’t. Maybe this is one of the dumbest pictures ever to be posted on TE. Maybe so. Perhaps you know what this is without a second thought. Whatever the case, curiosity got the best of you, and you’ve come on in for a closer look….a-ha, gotcha’! :)
Let's see, what could it be?
I found out recently that cutting an ??? in half along its width produced this nifty little star shape within the core. A profound discovery or spectacular photo? Nope, not even close…but something fun and interesting that I wanted to share as a sort of “photographic quiz” if you will. I’ll give you a hint…it’s NOT an orange. hehe
The answer lies in the WS.
Thanks for playing along.

hi jayz.
first i thought it could be a banana, but then it looked too pink. after that, i thought it could be a kiwi fruit, but then, a kiwi is much more blue. sorry for cheating, but i had to check the WS for the answer...
it would be more difficult to guess if you put the WS photo as for the quiz itself :))
good close up, and an unexpected surprize for TE. you might consider adding some cultural note about growing or consumption traditions of apples in the US, otherwise the admins can get irritated by its "originality".

Bonjour Jason,
Un petit jeu intéressant pour quelqu'un qui ne connait pas ce fruit. Pourtant les ananas sont tellement connus de par le monde que la question était très facile. Tu pourrais en essayer une plus difficile pour la prochaine.
Amicalement

Hi Jason,
Haha, I saw already in thumbnail it was an apple, but when you wrote this was a quiz... well, maybe it is the fruit I do not know that looks like an apple, quite possible. So, it is rather common object and we will see what happens :). Anyway, fun it is, good joke :). But I haven't noticed that there is five-fold symmetry here. I even took and apple to check if it always is like this. It seems it is. Five-fold symmetry is rather rare, usually we have three or six. So one can learn something.

Hi JC
does this one have any connection with Adam & Eve by chance?
If not then I am barking up the wrong tree in that famous Garden of theirs.
See how I am resisting any mention of snakes and nudity here. You have to be impressed big guy.

Hello Jason,
An apple, what the quize is all about, my favorite fruit: "an apple a day, keeps the Doctor away..." an old American saying.
Nice macro on.

Hello Jason,
a beautiful image and a very playful and intriguing note. I love the tight framing, the brightness and warmth of the apple, its soft and juicy texture. I also like very much the play of shadows and the marvelous contrast of the soft grey tones all around this delicious round slice. The naturalness and vividness of the apple is remarkable, you think that if you look at it long enough, you will start seeing its colours and textures change. Superb combination of naturalness and graphism! Congratulations and thank you! I have another, selfish reason for liking this photo:) I have an apple photo I'd like to show too but thought it would not be accepted on TE. Now I'll post it and see what happens:)
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hello Jason,
Very nice shot and cute. Fun note that engage people, I knew what it is just from the thumb nail. But than again it would have been many other fruits. did you know you break a penut in half, there is a Santa Claus in side one of half? or an old man's face with a bear :)
Nice still life image with good detials, now makes me want to bit into one.

Hi Jason,
haha, and I´ve started to find here some hidden transcendental meaning:)
And than wow, just an apple?that´s very original and inventive.Something new on TE,but honestly I really enjoy your creativity here. You show us,that photography has more than one face(not only postcard views).
Great idea to "refresh"the site a little bit.
Have a nice day

Hi Jason,
I was going to pretend to be all cultured and ask if this is where we get the Star Anis that you find in rice, but then I realized I would never pull it off, so was going to say a banana instead :)
So this is an everyday apple? You know the one thing this proves is that you dont need to go far to find a subject in photography. I spend so much time driving to faraway castles and ruins, when all along I just need to open my eyes to the things around me. An interesting thought provoking shot.
And a shot that makes me want an apple, thats one of my five a day sorted!
All the best
Noel

Hello Jason,
It's an apple. A bit oxidized, I hope you ate it before it went completely brown. Next time, rub a little lemon juice on it to prevent the browning.
After I've written this, I'll peek at the WS to see if I got it right.
Cheers,
MT

Hi Jason
so you're a food photographer now! haha
You know what, that WS photo is awesome!
seriously, it looks so cool with the 3 different colors.
I guess I'll now have to get into the kitchen and try to cut some apples up! fun shot
So who are you cheering for this W/E
Living in Vancouver, we've pretty much adopted Seattle as OUR team, so we'll all pulling for them. Lots of people here travel down to seattle for Mariner and seahawk games.
I know Manning is such a fan & Media favorite, but I like Brady. Love to see Seattle and New England.
lets see what happens.
cheers
