Photographer's Note
At first glimpse, I thought another airplane was next to mine at a dangerously close distance!
We all have frustrating moments when we miss a great photographic opportunity. And just occasionally we have a genuinely lucky break, being at the right place, at the right time, and having a camera on hand.
On our way to Tokyo two days ago, we flew out of Washington and changed planes at the Dallas-Ft.Worth International Airport in Texas — in advance of boarding the interminable 14-hour flight across the Pacific. As the plane circled over Dallas counterclockwise, the rising sun was briefly on the left side of the plane and I was seated in a window seat on the opposite or right side. The plane was just descending from a clear blue sky into the fog soup of clouds over Texas. Suddenly the shadow of the plane appeared cast on the clouds that served as a projection screen. The shadow, of course, was moving with the plane in a fleeting moment. And behind the sun was the reflection of the sun itself — on the western sky. And my iPhone 6, a favorite companion lately, was in my hands. This really represents one of those unexpected, once in a lifetime opportunities — actually capturing the sun rising in the West!
Warm regards to my friends,
Bulent

Merhaba Bulent
I might have cropped much tighter just on the shadow and circular rainbow which are the key elements of the shot. You were very lucky to get this image. A superb decisive moment with a lot of impact. Tfs!

Hello Bülent,
I have seen the shadow of my plane many times, but not inside a circular "rainbow". Maybe not really a photo of a lifetime, but an original and very attractive capture. It's clearly different from most airplane views on TE.
kind regards,
Gert

Indeed Bulent a "fleeting moment" which you magnificently taken. The sun halo is a in strait line with the plane shadow.
I can guess you were flying a Boeing 717, mostly use in short-leg flights.
Enjoy Tokyo, do not get yourself wonder around as in the movie "Lost in Tokyo" with Bill Murray & Scarlett Johansson...

Hello Bulent,
I enjoyed reading your notes to clearly understand what had happened to create the image in your photograph.
This is a sky example of of what might be interpreted, on ground as - a ghost!
It's fascinating!
And, I like how there is a complete circle, like a rainbow, around the shadow of the plane.
As you say, sometimes luck is on your side.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bulent,
Wow, a really impressive photo. Impeccable timing with both the reflection of the sun and the shadow of the plane in the clouds in one photo. Great work!

Hello Bulent, I see that you changed the title - it was the photo of life time. Attractive picture taken from the plane. I think that I saw similar image but I do not remember if I took pictures. Usually I make some photos but rarely they are specially good. When I went to Barcelona two weeks ago, i had wonderful weather and I saw Alps very clearly. I must check my mobile pictures.
Kind regrad s Malgo

Hocam merhaba,

Hello Bülent,
A very original photo taken in a plane.
What a coincidence to have the shadow of the plane in the reflected sun.
And what a good thing that you always have your camera in your hands so you were able to take this superb picture.
Best regards, Paul
