Photographer's Note
The return to space of the Space Shuttle Discovery, as seen from a Central Florida neighbourhood (about 50 miles away), at about 10:40 this morning. Almost all the neighbours turned out on the street to view the most recent launch into space - the first since the tragic explosion of the last return flight. This launch so far has been successful. And the neighbourhood children are excited.
The space programs of many nations have been wonderful and debatable, depending on whom you talk with, but there is no denying that it is a powerful show of the ingenuity of mankind.
Check out www.nasa.gov for more information on NASA and the space program.

I heard about Shuttle in the Italian television. It is a very important challenge for USA! I like this shot, because it connect the Shuttle launch with everyday places.

Great capture, Michelle! Over here on the Gulf Coast (Tampa Bay), we didn't see much. It was too hazy, and since it was a morning launch we were pretty much looking into the sun. An afternoon launch would have had better light quality for viewing and photography over here. But I was out too, and caught a glimpse of what you've photographed here. Nice job of framing this amazing accomplishment within the more mundane elements of daily life.

Not only an event, Michelle, but a very "decisive moment" I think:) Well caught. I like that shutter speed! I've just heard that some debris came away on lift-off, I hope all will be well for the astronauts, including our own Andy Thomas. I really like the context of the houses in your shot - it seems to emphasize the distance they will travel.

A remarkable shot, Michelle, and how very timely - as you seem to linger in sunny Florida. It's great that you got it at such a distance, thus showing how it looks to average people. And I'm able to understand the tension with which you regard such a special (and risky) moment. Let's just pray they return safely to earth. Very well done!

Great opportunity shot, Michelle. I must say I followed the live images of the shuttle return eating my nails. I'm glad all went well.
Note: I must say you have the funniest username on TE :D

Hi Michelle
being a bit overzealous, I had added two photos of the ferris wheel to your theme of swinging .... but later on I realized that that they don't fit in there as ferris wheel is not really swinging
Please feel free to take them off ... and btw
welcome to Ontario when you reach here ...

PS: Good one .... it must be nice to have been able to watch the launches from the street of the house ... cool

Neat shot of the trail of smoke. I think I would have cropped out the cars though. TFS
