Photographer's Note

Black Oystercatchers from Alaska to about Oregon are entirely black, but southward from there birds show increasing amounts of white feathers and browner (less black) abdomens. It breeds in Baja California and is a casual visitor to California. It feeds on a variety of marine life, specializing in creatures that cling to rocks below the high-tide line.

I've seen animals with a variety of eye colors, but I've never seen anything with bright orange eyes such as these guys.
