Well, not really ice, but actually calcite. Most cave formations are calcite, but contain various impurities which give them their colors. This formation, for unknown reasons, is quite pure and therefore white.

This picture was taken at the Caverns of Sonora. This cave has some very pretty formations and is worth a visit if you're ever in the area.

Interesting, another cave formation I've never seen. Thanks for posting and describing it. That flash can be a problem - just curious, did you try another photo from a step back? So that maybe the white wouldn't bleach out? Very "cool".
