Photographer's Note

Today, while preparing for yet another hurricane to tear through Florida, I noticed a strange thing. Our grapefruit tree, which had had almost all of its half grown fruit torn away, was full of blossoms. Citrus trees usually bloom in the early spring, immediately after their year-old fruit becomes ripe in the winter. But here, after the summer storm: new life, completely out of season.

One of our local restaurants had hung a sign over the place where it's old sign had been blown away. It read, "Hurricane Charley was tough. St. Cloud is tougher."

Maybe we will see another storm soon, and maybe it will be tougher than the last one. But somehow, I think this little grapefruit blossom has something to say about that.
