Photographer's Note
No man is an island
Meaning
Human beings do not thrive when isolated from others. Donne was a Christian but this concept is shared by other religions, principally Buddhism.
Origin
This is a quotation from John Donne (1572-1631). It appears in Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions, Meditation XVII:
"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

hello Tom
What a coincidence of this title that I have also posted on TL although different scenery and photo.
I like the autumn color and rich landscape of your capture here, showing clean water, bleu sky and a part of canoe.
Must be so nice to live in houses along the water edge here.

Hello Tom!
This is really wonderful photo of a landscape. I love the red-golden hills; they go well together with the blue colour of the lake and sky.
Amazing colours, good composition and excellent POV.

Congratulations Tom, for this another excellent photo.
The coloured reflections in the water give a verry nice symetry's effect. The boat in the FG is an excellent idea. This photo is a model.
Have a good evening,

Hi tom,
Another classic but would have been even better in my view if your kayak position had been more to the left for balance and to give the tall trees full view in reflections. I like it and TFS. Gerald

Hello Tom,
Interesting, philosophical notes.
I love this shot!
It has the appearance of abstract symmetry if you remove the prow of your trusty boat. The wavy lines of the land against the water and the sky, accentuate this effect.
Wonderful colours and good composition.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Tom,
There's that beautiful kayak again, and what a beautiful scene you've captured. The colour on the hillside is wonderful. Nice putting the reflection of the stand of trees onto the bow of the kayak, wood meets wood.
Bit of a list to port old chap.
Cheers

Hi Tom,
Again a great one including a kayak front. Those deep red autumn colours make me envious. Still water looks great and those white buildings add nice highlights.

Hi Tom

Hi Tom,
Again those beatutiful fall colours striking my screen. Seems like the complete hill is on fire, what a great view.
The lake, like a mirror, wonderful reflection and the boat in front make the shot...a very good one.

This is a technique I have seen from you before and I think it works very well as it places the viewer right there in the scene. Those autumn colours are glorious and the reflections stunning too. Beautiful shot!

Superb autumn colors and reflections, I like the intense blue of the lake contrasting with the rusty hills. The boat of the FG is a very good focal point of the photo. I'd like to be on that boat...
TFS and a nice WE !

Hello Tom,
Aside from the vicarious pleasure gained from paddling your boat with you, and seeing this remarkable view, there is the immense pleasure derived from reading your note. An image I posted two years ago does not have the colors or resolution of your sensational photo, but it does share the title, No Man is an Island.
Have a good weekend, Tom,

hello Tom,
beautiful landscape, and with the note it acquires additional layer of meaning.
I like a lot how you have composed the photo with the kyak just in the right place to emphasise the symmetry. the red of the trees create a strong contrast with the clear blue of the sky and water. very nice work.

Kristine
