The visit of Airbus A380 to Brisbane was a big disappointment for aviation enthusiasts. The broadly advertised visit scheduled to celebrate QANTAS (Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services) 85 years in service, with presence of John Travolta as official face of the Airlines, gathered more than 100,000 people around the Brisbane Airport. The plane’s ETA was given for 6.00 on that Saturday morning but it arrived almost 3 hours later. After the landing the plane was swiftly moved to a huge hangar, out of people’s sigh.
I took this photo standing on a roof of my car. Those two people are removing the “Airbus A380” sign to replace it with QANTAS one. Two minutes after I took this picture, the hangar doors were closed and only huge tail of this giant of the skies was visible.
Five days later, on Wednesday morning, some official celebrations took place, but, even if they were widely publicised, I do not think that they could draw any bigger attention. I think that on that Saturday morning the organisers missed a great opportunity. And as for the plane, well, today we know that it was not the only delay we witnessed.
