Photographer's Note

This magnificient wreckage is laying one of the most fantastic beach of the world. Fraser Island is a place where nature takes a unique dimension. This shot is not that much unique. The Maheno has been photographed by many tourists. It's a challenge to photograph it with nobody around.

But that day we were early and the tide was still high enough to worry the tourists. A few minutes after this shot a few of them were already crawling around and on the wreckage.

I used a polariser taking this picture to enhance the blue of the sky.

This shipwreck is the "Maheno", a former luxury liner and World War I hospital ship. In 1935, it was being towed to a scrapyard in Japan when it was blown ashore in a storm. To add to the indignities, it was used for target practice during World War II.

Fraser Island is part of the World Heritage Areas and although it's becoming far too touristic, it's a must to visit this Island if you happen to be around.
