Photographer's Note

The main gold bearing areas in Australia are found to the North-West of Melbourne with the fields running generally in a North to South aspect. The area bordered by Ballarat, Wedderburn and Bendigo is recognised as being the richest alluvial gold bearing area in the world and is often referred to as "The Golden Triangle".

In the Victoria of 1851 gold was literally oozing from the ground in almost inexhaustible quantities. Wealth was everywhere, and fortunes were being made.

Although I don't have the gold fever bug I have found quite amazing to see that nowadays some people are still into the gold rush spirit : I asked that man if I could take a picture of his hand holding the ''precious'', and he told me that he was from Alaska, panning for gold professionally , and this was basically his holidays adventure trip in OZ (Victoria).
