Photographer's Note

Another shot, about 180 degrees rotated from the POV of my previous post.

I'm keen to try experimenting with slightly longer exposures on surf - I'm not sure if I've exactly got it right here. Even with the ND4 filter, I find it takes silly f-stops (in this case, f/22) to get the blur I need.

Still, an interesting effect. I'll let you be the judge!

Hi Simon. It is a mystery to me how the people who frequent this TE site actually function. If this superb photo was posted by someone who has the credentials of being a member for a number of years and had scored 1,500 points plus,it would be sitting on 70 points or more. As is, I am the second person to give you points!!What on earth is wrong with it? Firstly it's in focus, which is more than...Secondly, it has movement, dynamism. Then it has great DoF. Then terrific light and colour. Even an element of mystery. I better stop or I'll start swearing. Cheers, keep your chin up. Klaudio

Well seen and well captured. Just look at the curve of white cloud. Great! The highlights of green of rock give a great lift and contrasts to the blues. I am jealous!! Grin!
Actually I like the amount of milkiness in the surf. Sometimes we get too much. You have held back a little and it works.

Hi Simon. I'm with Klaudio on this one. It's a wonderful capture of the water swirling in the rocks. I think your choice of exposure was about right. Nice depth, and the light is absolutely superb. Great work.

Love the blur effect, it looks superb!! Colours of the rocks look wonderful. Depth of field is great and I love the swirling water. I think you've done a great job with this pic!

Using a 2 secs. exposure certainly made this photo look dynamic as it creates a sense of motion. You also composed this shot perfectly using the 'rule of thirds'. Color quality is fantastic ... very natural. Well done!

hi simon, this is a great shot. i guess you were able to put the tripod on rocks that is why it did not sink after your 2 sec exposure

I like a lot all this album, you´ve got spectacular pictures, congratulations.
But I chose this one, because I adore the perspective you chose to take the picture. I like the effect you have achieved with the water close to the shore.

Some people tend to overdo the long exposure, but I think you've got it just right here. Smooth, yet well defined water texture, nicely conveys motion. This looks like a great spot for taking photos.

Hi Simon. Nice seascape, you have great colour on the rocks in the foreground and the sky has lovely clouds to break up the blue and add detail. It’s a shame you can’t have sharp breakers and a nice soft flowing foreground at the same time.( I’m sure there is a technique though, and if you find one let me know) Thanks for sharing.

Hi Simon,
An absolutely awesome shot, although i must confess to being a fan of long exposure shots! (note to self, must get a tripod...) The effect it has created in the sea amongst the rocks in the foreground is fantastic, love it! The sea looks weird and wonderful at the same time. The only thing I would say (such a minor point) is that the clouds on the left looks a little OE, but I don't think it's too much of a drama to sort that out!

Très belle photo avec une bonne gestion du temps de pose pour donner cette effet au premier plan.
Bon cadrage mais je pense que tu aurais du redresser la ligne d'horizon.

I think you've done an excellent job here Simon. Your DOF and the exposure in the bottom three-quarters of the image is absolutely perfect. I agree with Steve that the sky is slightly over-exposed, but that's the only fault anyone could find with it. Cheers . . . David

What a wonderful photo !
Interesting because of the longer exposure ( I must try to find out how to manage that ).
The "upright" rectangle - to me - enhances the the depth - from a few centimeters from your toes into the distant horizon - and you can see all the way !
Amazing evening light - and the colours go so well together .
A masterpiece !
I will add it to my favourites !

A nice selection of images in your gallery.I like the long exposure you have used in this one to create the effect of the moving water.It would have been interesting to see a lower angle and closed frame on just the foreground rocks....would have maybe looked like a mountain range from above....my imagination.Good detail and nice and sharp....TFS.

Hi simon, your gallery is excellent, i really hesitate commenting this one or "sands" that is also very good. I particularly like here the "2sec" use and the light that it extremly well balanced : a great job.

The foreground is really good Simon - I think the only problem in this shot is the time of day. It seems still very light and so you are battling against it to create a blurred effect. Later in the day a long exposure will not only blur the watter, but saturate the colour and give you slight shifts in the colour temperature. This will create an better effect. At this time of day a long exposure will reduce the contrast.

This looks like a great spot, so if possible, revisit it and the very beginning or end of the day - not always possible I know

Hi simon,
not a bad attempt, i reckon the deal is try these shots whent the light is fading or just arriving early morning or late evening, that way shutter speeds aren't so hard to get longer and the light is ususally delicious around that time anyway. I always find if there's a bit of cloud to diffuse the light you can get a less contrasty, better balanced shot aswell. cloud at the right thickness and time of day can create the most fantastic light.
