Sail Training Ship, a photo from Western Australia, West

Photographer's Note

The photo shows the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II, which is based in Fremantle harbor, Western Australia.

It is sailing ship with three masts, a square rigged foremast and fore-and-aft rigged main other masts.

The ship was launched on 2nd August 1986. It is currently operated by the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation, a private not-for-profit organization that runs youth training voyages along the West Australian coast.

The ship's overall length is 55 m and its beam 9 m. The hull is welded steel with a teak deck. The main mast is 33 m tall and, when fully rigged, the ship carries over 810 m2 of sails. A full crew consists of 55 people, consisting of 5 permanent crew, up to 10 volunteers and 40 trainees.

The watch leaders take control of the four watch groups and lead the trainees through activities and ship duties on voyages of five days and more.

nice capture of the Leeuwin II. I like the white mast against the pretty blue sky. The clouds were very pretty in this day and you show it very well.

a very beautiful picture, just like a watercolor ready to be hung on a wall. Excellent position of the ship in the frame makes the image so eye-catching and the gentle colors of the scenery are amazing.

Hi Miro,

Another wonderful shot of these ships...so far I'd have to say this one is my favorite. The colors here are outstanding, the different shades of blue between the water and sky are brilliant! The yellow tones from the mast's and ropes are the perfect compliment. You definitely chose the right angle and composition to showcase this particular ship, what a fantastic shot! I get motion sickness rather easily, but I wouldn't mind taking this out for a sail. :) Impressive image, thanks for sharing. Have a great day.

Another superb image of same subject - the training ship-seen full framed depicting the immense size and details, so well lit in subtle colors and excellent contrast paints the background. Hello Miro,

You're capturing well this sailing ship by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the beautiful ship with elegant masts and classic design. It's also tasteful as if the ship of Great Navigation Age, and it's a good news to hear that it runs youth training voyages now. And, it's good at color contrast between ship, sea and sky.
