Photographer's Note

Having boarded an Australian Qantas flight at the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport in the evening of 10 February, we arrived in Sydney on the morning of 12 February. (The 17-hour westward flight took us across the International Dateline and resulted in the complete loss of 11 February.) We spent the next few days in Sydney and Brisbane, Australia, where Murray Lines and Lisa Delpeoples, TE friends in Sydney, gave us connoisseurs’ tours of their beautiful city. We boarded the Seaboard Odyssey In Brisbane on 15 February for an 11-day cruise to the Islands of New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands (including Guadalcanal) and Vanuatu. From Port Vila, Vanuatu, we flew to Fiji, where we boarded a Fiji Air flight to LA, and then onto Washington, DC. Of course, crossing the International Dateline heading east restored the lost day, giving us a chance to enjoy 26 February two days in a row.

In the South Pacific the weather was warm, and for 17 days we missed neither the cold weather of winter in the northern hemisphere, nor the “Winter of American Presidential Politics.”
