Photographer's Note
I took this picture in Devenport, Tasmania.
Devenport is a small port city at the north end of Tasmania Island. We spent a day drove from Hobart, a city at the south end of Tasmania Island, to catch the Ferry/Cruise Ship, The Spirit of Tasmania. On the way, we visited Cradle Mountain National Park, and Queenstown. We calculated our time carefully such that we could catch the Ferry just on time while not missing any interesting part on the way.
When we arrived Ferry dock, we were told that the Ferry was later. They were expecting to have one hour delay. While wondering around Devenport, we noticed our ferry ship had arrived to the port.
Here the ferry/cruise ship, Spirit of Tasmania, was entering the port. In the photo, two fishmen at the bottom of the picture did not even take a look at the arrival of the giant ferry. Fishing was the only thing in their minds. I guess this is also a Spirit of Tasmania.
To tell how the Ferry looks like, I have provided a photo with a different view of the similar ferry in WS.
We took the ferry to Melbourne. Here is the picture of viewing Melbourne port at the time when we arrival Melbourne.
I have not crop the picture to put all weight on the ferry, in considering the scenery of the port other than the ferry. Hope you like it.

A landscape with some details, that makes this picture very "abstract" lines.
A great shot, Wes, which is very well composed !

Bonjour Wes,
On dirait vraiment que ce bateau fonce sur la jetée et que rien n'est en mesure de l'arrêter.
Une composition vraiment originale et bien réalisée.

This is a fantastic picture !
It almost looks like, I don't know, something artificial.
I love it !

Nice photo. I like the straight lines. It is nice that the ship is exactly in front of the viewer... if it continues like this, a accident will happen. All togheter, that makes the composition very intresting.
Well done!

A remarkable picture. It looks a bit unreal, just like a painting with a limited number of colours. I tried to find out why it looks so unreal. Perhaps because of the large number of straight lines and a very clean appearance of the sky and the surfaces on the ship. Also the very sharp horizon is something that we don't see very often. Nice effect.

I have a Invite to go Australia at 2o years ago, and I didn't go. So my excuses to me posible....;;)
This composition is like I could travel by boat in past or now, and here you with your great sea boat did a wonderful frontal perspective scenery, with a great quality photo and composition. It's like the boat is reaching in a great quality frame my pc and home.
THanks for your realistic or virtual quality approach, is like cinema!!!!
Great work and well done. Surprise :)))

Wow, I had no idea this pic was going to be this good when I clicked on it! With this POV and colors it looks more like a painting to me. I think the clarity and the great sky are also contributors to this shots excellence. Great shooting Wes!

What I find most intriguing is that you have managed to catch the ferrry straight on! That symmetry is unusual, for such a large structure. Excellent simplicity and strong colours.

Bonjour Wes,
Impressionnant de voir une masse pareille venir droit sur toi !
La composition est bonne, avec pas mal d'éléments (dont ces pêcheurs) pour agrémenter l'image ;-)
Bien vu !

Hi Wes
I like the layered horizontal clouds. The ship looks deceptively top heavy. Good sharpness & color. Well done!

Nice composition Wes,
Large ships like this I find difficult in finding a good angle, something that would draw some interest.
I think you've found the answer by just composing the photo well with other subjects included.
It almost looks as though the ship is going to run aground.
Well done!

Hi Wes
This is a great compo, 3 levels/scales: a man, a seahorn and a boat.
And an important detaill your position in fronto to the boat.
Well done

Hello Wes
Très étrange cette composition, il me semble voir une peinture sur un grand mur.
L'utilisation d'une longue focale a compressé la perspective.
Le cadrage est parfait.
Hello Wes
Very strange this composition, it seems me to see a painting on a large wall. The use of a long focal compressed the perspective.
Framing is perfect.

Hi Wes,
I discovered your Aussie travelogue and like others I like this view of the impressive ferry coming in, the white tower gives a nice balance to it and the horizontally layered clouds complement well the composition. Finally the two fishermen are a nice additional details for a different view of the scene.
Have a nice day,

Your POV is impressive here, the ferry seems very big.
The sky is nice with the horizontal lines.
I like this flat perspective... Well done !

What an original and incredible pov !!
The axis of the boat is absolutely perfect.
As you have only few depth, it looks like a drawing !!!
Great great job.

Oh - I missed this one (and a lot more I quess) Denmark and Tasmania was united in a way last year when out Crown prins Frederic - married Mary Donaldson of Tasmania. I like the composition and the feeling of being "sailed down" by that ferry - The precense of people adds extra to the image and give extra size to the boat - Thanks wes for sharing this fine job -and the links as well.

Hi Wes, this shot has a wonderful composition with the ship framed by the white building and the walkway. It looks so huge as if it shouldn't really be in these shallow waters at all. The two guys at the bottom of the frame are a great detail.

Hi Wes,
You have reason to be proud of this photo; it really captures the sense of the town well. Framing is perfect; color and detail are also excellent. We took the ferry from Melbourne to Devenport and then flew back to Brisbane a couple of weeks later. We had gotten a psecial deal on driving a po-top camper from it's winter renatal place in Perth to its summer reantal place in Hobart. Regards, Pat
