Photographer's Note
Yellow-eyed penguin, also known as Hoiho, is the world’s rarest species of penguin.
They’re only found around the east coast of Otago Peninsula or Curio Bay and Waikawa in the Catlins of Southland.
This penguin came ashore around 6pm in late spring at Curio Bay (where i stayed for a night), after doing some routine dancing, stretching, preening and checking of predators before waddling across petrified fossil forest, jump onto rocks and hide deep into nest built in bushed.
At this instance, this Hoiho turned around i suppose to check whether there is any predator coming around before going back to it's nest and rest for the night.
