Monsoon Sunrise, a photo from Faasaleleaga, Savaii

Photographer's Note

A huge thunderhead was building directly over my head as the sun rose on my last day on this island. Lightning flashed into the scene, but I couldn't quite capture it. The longer exposure I chose to capture a few lightning bolts ended up resulting in these interesting cloud effects. A few minutes after I took this I got drenched in the heaviest downpour I've ever experienced. But it was awesome! This is The National Park of American Samoa.

Great idea to use very long exposure and get such a strange colors and very smooth water surface.

I don't know where you took this picture but it was definitelly not on Savaii Island which is part of the former West Samoa and some hundred KMs west of American Samoa. Anyway - you did a perfect postcard job. TFS Thomas

The overall effect is very good. The colours you achieved are very good and I like the slightly blurred palm tree leaves and clouds.

This is really great. I'm amazed at the crispness of the "foreground". As I like to think, why use Photoshop when Nature provides us with the real thing. I really like this.

Great light and colours! 30s exposure just right to nicely blur the water, show movement in the clouds and convey the sense of drama. You managed to place all the important elements of the composition on just the right background thus creating powerful silhouettes.
