Photographer's Note

The Zongo valley is located near La Paz. The valley starts at the foot of the Huayna Potosi mountain and that's also the highest point of the road.
The valley is located on the east-northern side of the Andes thus providing a very steep terrain that descends rapidly from glaciers to rain forest.
A road was built going down the valley since it is the main source of electricity to the city of La Paz. Along the valley there is a system of lagoons, channels, pipes and turbines that transform the topography and water into electricity.
The houses you see on the left belong mainly to the people who maintain this system. The road is a dead end - so you must go back the way you came.
There is very little traffic on this road so it is ideal for down hill bicycle trip - allowing you to descent some 3000m in a few hours without the traffic hazards that can be found on the much more popular route of La Paz - Coroico road.
