FACHADA DO CENTRO CULTURAL SANTANDER!
FAÇADE OF THE CULTURAL CENTER SANTANDER!
Built between 1927 and 1931, this neo-classic style building, whose façade and ornamentation were designed and carved by Spanish architect Fernando Corona, with the participation of the German architect Theodor Wiedersphan, to house the headquarters of Banco Provincia, then National, South-Brazilian, Meridional and finally Santander that converted it into a cultural center.
My first trip to PORTO ALEGRE was back in 1988! I traveled all by myself, by bus, to many places in Southern Brazil (the States of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul).
In 2002, while traveling by car from Campinas to Buenos Aires, I just passed by this city.
This third time, I came by plane and it was supposed to be a short trip to take some digital pictures of the city for the first time!
I took a lot and I'll share many with you all here on Trek Earth, from now on, all of them mixed with all the other places I've been to lately.
I'll also write more data about the city in the next pictures.
"Porto Alegre (local Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpoɾtʊ aˈlɛɡɾɪ] ( listen);[1] Joyful Harbour) is the capital and largest city in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Founded in 1769 by Manuel Sepúlveda, its population of 1,509,939 inhabitants (2010) makes it the tenth most populous city in the country and the centre of Brazil's fourth largest metropolitan area, with 4,405,760 inhabitants (2010). The city is the southernmost capital city of a Brazilian state.[2]
Porto Alegre was founded in 1769 by Manuel Jorge Gomes de Sepúlveda, who used the pseudonym José Marcelino de Figueiredo to hide his identity; but the official date is 1772 with the act signed by immigrants from the Azores, Portugal. In the late 19th century the city received many immigrants from other parts of the world, particularly from Germany, Italy and Poland. The vast majority of the population is of European descent.
The city lies on the eastern bank of the Lago Guaiba (Guaiba Lake), where five rivers converge to form the Lagoa dos Patos (Patos Lagoon), a giant freshwater lagoon navigable by even the largest of ships. This five-river junction has become an important alluvial port as well as a chief industrial and commercial center of Brazil." Wikipedia with corrections

Hello Ney,
The classically designed building with its elegant façade makes an interesting juxtaposition with the more mundane architecture on the right. The image is well exposed and has good colours and clarity. Very good rendering of the architectural detail.

Hello Ney
another amazingly detailed and beautiful piece of architectural heritage here. Once again exquisitely maintained and this time with unusually coloured stonework. Excellent POV that gives us a sense of the imposing height and grandeur of this cultural centre.
Have a good weekend - B.

Hi Neyvan
You really are getting some mileage out of that beautiful architecture; it's dynamic with lovely colours and contrast which also exaggerates the proportions seen from good low viewpoint where depth and perspective are accentuated by the convergence with nice impact. But wonder why the sky looks a bit greenish on my screen! Excellent shot. Congrats
Best regards

Hi Neyvan,
I often find neo classical buildings to be very imposing and impressive, and this is no exception! Your chosen angle is very nice thought out, as it makes the vast columns reach upwards impressively and gives the building a fine sense of majesty. I like the strong light glaring above too, it adds an almost heavenly feel, like this could be a gate to another world.
best wishes
Noel
