Photographer's Note
I already announced it when I uploaded the gentlemen, that I was going to upload one of the dance party in Paraty.
I saw the banner and thought it would be some very nice Brazilian dance for people to have fun, so I went there to enjoy some nice dancing and music. But when I came there it appeared to be a dance contest for dance groups. The variety was very big, modern dance or very classical ballet, groups or a solo classical ballet. The music varied tremendously as well.
Of course I had my camera with me, and I experimented a bit with speed and aperture. I liked this one best, the lighting was perfect in my opinion, and I like the motion blur very much. Hope you like it too.

Hi Rinie.
Splendid capture where we see the movement. Is more important that idea, the movement, than the real figures.
Also I like very much the use of the light. Is very impressive, and, at the time, very suggerent.

Hi Rinie,
I like your perspective and different way of picture post like I did im my actual. This is not "Twist" or "Rock'and!Roll" but your way of view like a Virtual Time Machine or Advanced dance!!!
Very well seen, excelent moment and creative insight, slendid capture motion, and a inivative of view the same wih different eye. A Must :-)))
Very good work and view for a fantastic composition. Possible you dance in photo better than the dancers. "Motion Blur" for the others.
Thanks for sharing and my critique.

What made you decide to hide this gem for so long?
I realize that I can't write anything "meaningful" about it, for I keep going up and down this page to look repeatedly to this splendidly graphic depiction of movement and feeling. Silhouettes merge and run away from each other at the same time, no longer a duet since time has become a truly visible - albeit silent - partner here.
Somehow, it also looks like a Bacon painting, grasping with space (though I guess I would have cropped part of the empty background) and fighting to depict contrary (e)motion(s).
Great, simply great, Rinie!

Yes, it is indeed a beautiful "mise en scène" of reality. The subject is about light and movement, and it seems as a representation of a symbiosis between the two. I love it.

Nothing sharp, but perfect dipiction of this event, beautiful light and compo.

This is sooo good, Rinie, the point where a very finely tuned technique comes to the service of art. So often it's one without the other (most often just empty technique), but here it all comes together in a blindingly limpid blur and...BANG, right between the eyes: a winner.
Bravo!

Hi Rinie,
Wow that's interesting, the blur gives here a very good restitution of the roatting movement, but I think I like even better how they seem to melt together, all this combined with the superb light gives a splendid result, I like it !
Have a nice day,

A great feeling of energy. The rustic colours give a warm earthy feel to the dance.
The composition is also excellent with the sublect off centre. Lovely shot Rinie.

Superb shot Rinie!
I like the dark background so that the dancers are completely isolated, not disturbed by other elements of the compo.
The colors are great with the feeling of motion.
Very good.

It looks like a mix of solid gold and melted bronze. Really really beautiful. I don't know what to add that would be meaningful. "Pas de deux" is not really adequate, since the reality of the two dancers has mostly disappeared and has left place to pure movement, pure magic, I don't know how many they are in this incredibly graceful painting, and it really doesn't matter. Just magic.

You are being really creative here Rinie. I really like this with the bold black background holding the blurred images of the dancers. The image draws us in as we attempt to discern exactly what is happening on the stage. I see a face here, a leg there, a muscular, tanned arm swinging there... delighting us all. Lighting is perfect, as you say. Wonderful work!

Rinie, this picture is excellent! The mixture of blurred motion of bodies of the two persons and the sharpness of the woman's head forces me to keep analyzing the movement of the dancers continuously and I still haven't figured out how they moved.... The result is absolutely magnificent! But what a strange shutter time was recorded by your camera: 10/16 seconds??? Did you use manual shutter time?

Wow... what an outstanding picture. When I look at yours and at mine, I clearly see the difference between a professionnal and an amateur shot. I still need a lot of practice (and a D-SLR!)

Pity there's no more photos like this one on TE.
Keep experimenting - you produce fantastic results.

Hi Rinie! It's nice to be back! Hope everything is fine with you.
I have missed out on a lot of your work!
This one is excellent! I love the motion blur, the shapes are very artistic. This looks almost like a painting. Very surreal.
Excellent light. I like the very dark background. That make all focus on the dancers. Very artistic and well done.
All the best to you!

Wow, that's a great one. The motion does it all, it is very well captyred, an so is the light. I really like the large black space on the left. Very good one, Rinie.

Ho! The advantages of having a 1600 iso… How I envy you…
This is a beautiful image, and although the contrast of the bright part against a dark background is something common in these type of photos, I must say that the blur created buy the motion is one of the best I have ever seen.
I really like how the blur in this case have a soft and smooth organic shape contrary to the more usual “aggressive” motion blur giving a certain kind of “liquid” and elegant movement to the dancers.
The warm light is magnificent.

Hi Rinie, you've done a perfect job with the long exposure here. The sense of movement is one of the best I've seen on TE. Excellent lighting and colour too. You did exceptionally well to handhold this.

hey rinie..
this is a really interesting photograph..
i think if you're in such a place again.. take lots and lots of such photograph..
i think you'll be able to catch something even better..
while it is nice.. i think if it was neater.. as in a little more harmony in the motion... it would have had a greater impact..
right now the colours are so harmonious but the motion is not as much.. so there seems to be a little bit of a contradiction..
ofcourse.. if you create a whole series of photographs with similar contradictions i.e. you back these contradictions with a certain style, then i'll automatically look at it in a different light..
at the moment, i have to be human and wonder if it really makes some sense.. or is it just about a blur..
take care :)

I do like this kind of photo (two of a kind you can see in my portfolio) probably because I think this is a best way to present balle movement in photography.
Art of ballet is elusive art and in my oppinion static photo is not the best way to express essence of movement.
You make an exceptionall photo, capruring everything that makes a ballet : movement, gentlness, colours, moods.
I really do like this phot.
Regards Darko
P.s Sorry I run out of smileys bur this one goes to my favourites
