Photographer's Note

This is taken in Parati (pronounced Pa-ra-chi), located about 240km west of Rio. The town was founded by the Portuguese in the 17th century and for a while served as a export port for gold mined in nearby regions.

Parati has very well preserved colonial architecture and only foot traffic is allowed in its centre, making it a bit of a time capsule.
