Photographer's Note

This photo was taken in the little lost town of Sicaya in the Mantaro valley. The Mantaro valley is located about 350 KM east of Lima and it is a wealthy agricultural region with Huancayo (pop 400,000) as its main city. Most of the valleys villages have lost some of their charm due to increased wealth.

Here we were on a quest looking for nice out of the way places which took us to Aco, the place in which we started the beautiful 8 km Hike to the town of Mito. But in order to get to aco, we had to go to Chupaca (a modern prosperous town), take another minibus to to Sicaya pictured here and then take yet another minibus to Aco.

While we waited for the minibus we walked around Sicaya, it does have a nice lost feeling about it. It is important to note that over 70% of Peruvians live in cities so while this picture is typical froma rural perspective it does not reflect the reality of the country as a whole.
