The rickety and woody interior of a Rungus longhouse, getting brighter inside from the warm cast of a hurricane lamp while the cold bluish tint of dusk setting in outside, seen through the gratings and slits of its bamboo splits flooring and wall.

Rungus, is an indigenous ethnic along the Kudat Peninsula of Sabah and traditionally farmers and small games hunters of the forested plains and low lying hills.

While some have moved to standalone homes, there are others who still live communally in longhouses which support up to 15 families under the same roof and with the same covered veranda like in the photo.
