Photographer's Note

The Lintrathen Reservoir is a dam containing the Loch of Lintrathen , which has supplied the city of Dundee with water since 1875.

The main water supply is nowdays stored in the Backwater Reservoir 4km to the north of the Loch and is connected to Lintrathen basin by the Back Water's spill way. The water then, leaves the Loch through sluices at Bridgend of Lintrathen, heading to the south past Lintrathen Mill towards Dundee.

Surrounded by trees it is a natural habitat for wildlife including deer and ospreys. Lintrathen is a well known fishing area. It gives a feeling of peace and tranquillity to the visitor, offering some spectacular views, especially in the late afternoon.

As the area is subject to quite low temperatures in the winter, the basin freezes. At one such moment, the sunset shown here provided a majestic view with its reflections off the ice.
