Market scene, Kalaw, a photo from Shan, North

Photographer's Note

Kalaw is a small town in the hills of the Shan state. It has a cool weather, by Burmese standards and from there, one can do numerous treks in the surrounding villages.
This is a flower seller in the Kalaw market.
She smokes a cheeroot, similar to the Indian beedee...

Kalaw est une petite bourgade tranquille des collines (env. 1300m.)de l'état Shan. Il y fait bon et frais (25°) comparément au reste du pays. C'est le point de départ de nombreux treks dans la région (magnifique)
Ici, une fleuriste dans le marché de la ville fume un tchiroute, les petits cigares locaux...

Salut Laurent,

Un agencement de couleurs des plus agréables et harmonieux.

Un portrait d'un sujet dans son environnement bien ficelé, où le regard se fixe sur le cigare à défaut de voir les yeux, ce qui me plait parce que c'est différent. Les orteils sont coupées, mais les fleurs nous font oublier ce détail.

Hi Laurent,
Marvellous colours from the foreground flowers. They form a perfect harmony with the green colours of the smoking woman. The background trees and the cigar are parts of a clear line through the picture, creating a good balance.

Cette femme, qui paraît très élégante et très belle malgré l'ombre qui cache ses yeux, fume le tchiroute d'une façon très intéressante.
Ses affaires semblent "fleurissantes". Une très bonne photo, un superbe portrait. Bravo.

Hello Laurent,

Ah !!! Voilà une température qui me va mieux que tes 40°C habituels... Mais il faut tout de même avoir son chapeau pour éviter les insolations. Une belle prise de vue sur cette marchande de fleurs agréablement colorées et qui doivent sentir meilleurs que le cigare qu'elle semble fumer avec délectation... Joli coup d'oeil, merci Laurent.

Color is very impressive, i like this color like passing through a orange filter. Red of flowers is really beautiful. The cigar in mouth makes a good visual accent. Marvelous work.

Hi Laurent
This is typical Burmese with two distinctive identities, cheroot and the hat although tanaka is not applied this ocassion. I remember Kalaw, especially the colonial train station, love this place and down to earth, humble Burmese people. This image bring back my fond memory of this beatiful country I wish to revisit somedays. Great shot my friend.

Very nice daily life image with strong color of the flowers, and the women smoking the cigar very typical of Burmese woman tradition, unfortunately the light is very difficult and with the grand hat blocking out so much light on her face. Not the best light and condition but still nice.

On est tout de suite attiré par le florilège écarlate du bas de l'image. Très bonne composition pour une scène de vie quotidienne dans la rue.
Pas courant chez nous de voir un e femme, le cigare au bec . Dommage pour sa santé.
