Photographer's Note
Mt Miancimu rises to over 6000m on the border between Yunnan Province China and Tibet. Below, the Mekong River has carved a massive canyon.
I took this image on a one to one workshop I was leading, and I am almost ashamed to mention it, from the bedroom window of the hotel!
A fairly simple exposure 7 minutes at ISO 200 - lots of moonlight.
The star trails are long because of the focal length used, somewhere in the region of 240mm if memory serves me correct.
Stars can appear to move a long way in even a short time...

This is a fairly stunning image, Alistair. Great long exposure, with really nice shadow and detail on this gorgeous peak. I'm curious about the streaks of light in the sky - 7 minutes is too short a time for those to be stars, I'd think, though this is a zoom.

Hello Alister - Your last post was good, this one is sensational. I am really impressed by the beautiful tonal range and the smooth quality of this shot. This is B&W at its best and reminds me of Ansel Adams work. I would be really interested to know how you work out your exposure and what PP work you do. Breathtaking! Warm regards rosemary

Hello Allister.
after reading your note I'm tempted to say that: this is THE room with a view!
The 7 min exposure allowed you to add drama, if more was needed, to this peaks. I love how the clouds seem to flow thru the range of peaks unveiling the details behind.
A word for the great tonal range this photo presents so difficult to have with digital, it almost looks like something caugth with analog film and as Rosemary says this has some Ansel Adams look.
Very nice!
Cheers.
