Photographer's Note

The cenote, one of a considerable number at Mayapán, is located only a few metres away from the Chamber of the Masks. Apparently, it has been the subject of some exploration to determine whether offerings may be found below the debris. The water levels have not been topped up over the years since the site was abandoned; and possibly there have been no prayers and offerings to the god Chaac at nearby altars (at the Temple of the Cenote and the Chamber with Masks). I have read that this cenote is part of a cave system underlying the adjacent Castillo.
