Postcard from the Bahamas, a photo from Bimini, North

Photographer's Note

I have just returned from very busy holidays in Florida. Among other attractions we took a one-day trip to the Bahamas by ferry. We went to the closest Bahamian island from Miami, Bimini. It is just two hours away by ferry from Miami.

Surprisingly it is hard to find any consistent information about Bimini. Even Google Maps got it completely wrong and if you type Bimini in Google Maps search, you end up somewhere else -far away from the island. Names of the beaches vary depending on the source as well. I got a FODOR’S guidebook to Bahamas but it didn’t help that much.
FRS ferries stop now at a pier which is relatively newly build in the northern part of North Bimini Island which belongs mostly to Hilton. If you don’t opt for renting a golf cart then you are by default taken straight to the Luna Beach. Luna Beach is I believe also a new name given to a beach which was quite recently reorganized. It has a wild part (in this photo) but it also has a developed part where you can rent umbrellas or go for a great quality meal with the stunning view.

Although it was just a day trip I could talk about it for ages, but maybe I will keep some information for other photos…

What a hard time you had, hahaha! This looks like paradise with the typical Caribbean blue of the water! I like the composition with these trees in the foreground and the diagonal line dividing the sea and the sand. Wonderful view!

A great view of this idyllic place, the colours of the clear water, the white sand and the blue sky look amazing. The trees in the foreground are surprising though, I would have expected to see some palm trees.

cześc Mariusz, Widzę, że zobaczyłeś nie tylko Disneyland. Jak byłam na Florydzie jakos mi nie przyszlo do glowy, ze można poplynąć na Bahamy. Ładna pocztówka, sliczny kolor wody.

I was wondering where you were, now I see you were enjoying the sun and beach, whilst we were shivering in an unusually cold spring! I'm not jealous, just wished we had done something similar!

I love this beach!
Just the sort of place that I like with a clear sea, sandy beach and a lack of all those trimmings that you experience on commercial beaches!
The tree trunks make a pleasing, highly-textured separation line between the shady f/g and the beckoning sea.

stunning blue and turquoise sea, edged by white sand and trees grow few meters from the water. But, no other people around, maybe this is the secret to a great vacation...

Well you also just returned from a trip to these idyllic islands, I have been last month on the island of Ibiza, but now I have started with the report to the three Baltic capitals that I made last year, I always go slowly up my pictures. First I have to review, identify and work some.
Idyllic beach without anyone, with shade, with a fine sand, a sea of incredible blue, can you ask for more? It is a beauty of place.
Wonderful image, sharpness, exposure, colors, POV chosen and the
composition are excellent.

Hello Mariusz,
I admit that I haven't looked on the map to find the exact location of the Bahamas but I am surprised that you can visit it on a daytrip from Florida. It's even only two hours by ferry from Miami.
Knowing this I would expect that this island is frequented very busy by tourists.
Yet you present us a deserted beach :)
The colour of the water looks wonderful. Like what many expect of a tropical paradise.
I guess accommodation can be quite expensive on that island ...

I can recognize the trees and the marvelous sea from other images of these paradise islands. I thought it was more distant from miami.. excellent this view, make us to be there.
