Photographer's Note
It was a challenge for me to find a photo from Dubrovnik that hasn't been shot before, but I think I found an original one here.
I still don't remember what this large box is, I asked my wife if she could remember and she doesn't either.
On the outside is a QR Code, the little white square on the right which you can clearly see. We tried scanning it with our cell phones just now, but its too blurry when you zoom all the way in. The QR code would have given us all the info. The white square on the door is just telling people you're being watched by a video camera.
At first I thought it was some cool funky bathroom. We have these here in Vancouver. But for some reason i'm thinking its NOT a bathroom. I wonder if its some sort of religious historical information booth, that's possible.
Anyways, I hope you can solve this mystery for us, if not, enjoy the view of old town Dubrovnik - just a little bit different
On a completely different subject...in the WS is a black hour photo of the church in Hvar that I posted yesterday.

Hi Craig,I have no idea what it can be or contain, but I can give you a definitely decisive information, in 2006, when i was there, there wasn't ... ahahaha ... really a curious thing but in fact also a way to show something different and original from Dubrovik, one of the most photographed cities on this site. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Craig,
The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the small building. The light ia making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig
It certainly looks to have more of a religious slant than a toilet block. A good photo from along the Plaka.
cheers

Hi Craig
Fascinating... Yes, I agree it's not a bathroom. Looks like some kind of magic takes place inside. :-) Great timing for the lady in pink with dazzling white umbrella. She makes for another goo focus point.
Amazing black hour image in WS. Tripod is the best photographer's friend indeed!
Best wishes

Hello Craig,
It could be a booth for instant confessions to the priest on duty inside for those who don't have time to go to the nearest church. Or it could be a shop for religious paraphernalia that was closed for lunch. Or it's just an artist's installation placed here to make people curious. It's an amusing photo in any case and very different from the usual Dubrovnik pictures. I like the WS too, especially the persons standing or sitting in the light.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Craig,
This is definitely original!
And, you have set us a problem to solve!
The paintings are obviously religious in nature, but then, there are the shapes, one like a window or an arch, which all have measurements attached.
Maybe it is a scaled representation of something inside the church which is being renovated!
I like to see the night shots. Armed with your tripod, the results are amazing!
Did you wonder why the people were waiting outside the church? Maybe we shouldn't ask!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
I agree with you that this is most likely not a bathroom. :) My best guess that it some kind of visitors centre.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
PS: Regarding your theory that the yellow brick road is new. Well, it is, but not that new. I guess they clean bird poop often. :)

Hello Craig,
A very nice streetscape from the streets of Dubrovnik on a day with some fine sunlight, which highlighted the warm hue of the houses. Good composition with this mysterious box placed in the right hand foreground.

Hello Craig, the 'box' seems to be set at a funny angle in relation to the building, it is very strange. It looks totally out of place.
I like the shot of the church with the black night sky. The illumination works particularly well.
Kind regards, Jean.
P.S. I sent you a reply about my quarry picture.

Hello Craig,
I am going to guess it's a portable confessional - why not? What a pretty street!

Hi Craig,
This mysterious, ugly brown block is a stark contrast with the surroundings of warm-coloured stone buildings. Therefore it's almost certainly an art installation. Like most modern architecture, it doesn't just stand out from the local environment, it declares war on it. It's purpose is to dominate and subjugate, rather than to just get along with its neighbours. Let's hope it's just a temporary contemporary artwork. That's my rant for the day.

Hello Craig,
So you found a mysterious box...with the religious paintings on the outside I'd guess that it was a secret confessional, or maybe it's a trick, and there's nothing inside! I guess we'll never know. :-) It's something different, and it's a nice photo.

Hello Craig,
I've never seen a box like this at the entrance of a church. The religious images on it make it clear that it belongs to the church. There also seem to be some simple floor plans depicted.
Apparently you didn't see anyone enter or exit the box after all.
All passers-by even stay far away from it. Presumably they chose the shade in the street.
The box will remain a mystery for now, I think.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Craig!
If this was an attempt to depict Dubrovnik in a way never done before - you scored a hit!
This rusty box reminds me of the one which has beet set up in the city of Andernach. It was from there that transports with mentally handicapped went to Hadamar for physical extermination during the nazi period, so-called euthanasia, and the rusty cube contains all their prenames inside.
Be glad you could not look in.
Sven
