Photographer's Note
This is the 2nd picture from Foxton Cannal Locks(the previous one being Going Nowhere), taken on News Day this view is looking down the locks from the 3rd set of gates and there are 10 sets of gates from top to bottom and not a pump of any sort all done by hidden water channels
and gravity built at the turn of the last centry (1900 ish). The man on the right is winding up a small gate to let the water out and so lower the boat down to the next level. I am told it takes over an hour to go from top to bottom, same to go back up. These where the motorways of the victorian period all heavy frieght went by cannal and it is said the city of Birmingham has more cannals than Venice just not quiet as scenic ;0( .
This another pic taken for the camera club comp this thurs night which is why not so many posts here on TE been busy with the framing etc.

Good note and an interesting photo. Good post processing although the colours now look a little over-saturated. BTW I think there is a typo in your lens description 'Zeiss 2.2-48.5'

It looks pretty cramped down there ;-) Nice angle, I'm amazed the background doesn't look more blurred with the F-stop you've used.

What I think I like best is how the shape of the lock (and camera angle) from this vantage point makes it look like an arrow (pointing toward the top of the image). I also like how the two people and the pump (?) make symmetrical blue-red/red-blue elements on either side of the "arrow head." I wonder what the picture would have looked like with a bit more "head space" at the top and perhaps an element of interest being "pointed-at" by the "arrow."
I like the punch of the colors though (just personal) I don't like the turquoise of the top of the boat : )

This is a fascinating photo of an interesting subject. Your compostion really enhances the long, narrow feel of the canal and the vessels that go through it.

Oh - I surely missed a lot lately (too much I guess) - I dident realize the size of this type of boat - Surely a specialized type of transportion and good to see a well preserved boat like this.
I always been fasinated by locks (hard to find in Denmark) but I never tried one in real life. Great shot - gives a feeling of "being there"
