Photographer's Note
The enormous heaps of snow start to melt occasionally on Ottawa's streets, only to refreeze a day or so after. The streets are hardly navigable these times. I know that partial desaturation is a contentious issue but I was so enchanted by the contrast between the colour of the boots of the girl hurrying by and the general drabness of the snow melting into deep gray puddles that I have finally yielded to committing the sacrilege of leaving the pink in.
Now you can boo me... ;-)

well, I can pardon your feminine instinct here, because it works well. I like the layering of several elements here--the leaf, the shadows, the pavement and finally the girly pink. Terrific contrast.

Yes, it does work. I'm not particularly fond of partial desaturation, but yu've made your point and it is successfull, aesthetically wise. I guess it reveals your graphism background, sensivity and search of detail. The small leave on the bottom is a must. Glad also to learn that you are "defreezing". Hope to see you bathing in sunlight soon... ;o)

Great picture! I love the clarity of the photo and the splash of color provided by the girl's boots. Very artistically framed. Nicely done!

Listen, Sasa. Partial desaturation is something I only ever used once (the old woman in Hoi An with the red flag, remember?) and I was trembling in my boots when I posted it. But in your case, I believe you could get away with an entire series - you have that much graphical smarts, what can I say? Here the technique works so well because you give us a superb BW image with dark wintry reflections and then the gentle violence of those pink boots. Everyday brings us new delights from your atelier, and we learn, go away, and try new stuff...if only we would dare!
Best,
Francis

I think this is a stunning image, sadly I lack the vocabulary to articulate my thoughts. Ah well.
Also, I wish I knew how to partially desaturate...!
No 'boos' here. Just envy.

well i have to agree too it does work for me. and of all the colors; pink! there is light at the end of the tunnel! the leaf is indeed a strong element, wish maybe it was a bit more towards the corner (i'm beeing picky). great texture (even on this crappy monitor)

Hey Sasa, class shot! I love the brave crop most of all and the way the legs are so small in this compo while what seems to dominate is the tree and the graphism there. But the splash of pink you left in is genius. Its pulls us right there to those boot. Selective desaturations can be tricky, you pulled it off with gusto.

Hi Sasa.
Excellent

You are back to you one of you initial inspiration, Sasa ! A partial desaturation.
This one is subtile in the high contrasty b/w.
Love it and the water reflection is stil there ;o).
Cheers, Alain -

Sarolta, this is perfect as it is... but just had a crazy idea... there is a leaf on the puddle... what if it was in color too?... TFS. Enrique

Hi,
I like this photo a lot... the selective desaturation is great (hurrah not boo ;) and the reflection is sharp and clear. I particularly like the sole leaf near the bottom of the frame.
Thanks, Lewis.

I'm lost on waht to say again, such a brilliant observation and composition, and the desaturation that leaves the pink is perfectly done- no booing!:-) i genuinely love it, perhaps because the pink is not really opressive, it looks delicate, i;d say:-)

Hello Sasa,
Is this a partial desideration as Al's note here? I thought this is a full Color. Anyway, partial Desideration to enhance the pink is also a good idea. What I like most here is the framing, the pink boot in the top and the leaf at the bottom, which also plays a good role for me here. The graphic is excellent as usual.

I like it too,
usually the partial desaturation is not well chosen, but this is great. A great lesson for me b/c I would fearfully stay away from this, but you make it work great.
I feel for the little puddle splasher with your creation here.
very good

Sasa, nothing to boo if the effect (and subject) justifies the means. The "rules" can only gain with clever way of breaking them. I really like the play of reflections in this puddle and counterbalancing floating leaf vs. your focal pink boots. Looks so interesting also because of this diagonal divide.
ps. I was away for awhile and so many interesting photos to look at (and comment...)
take care,

Hi Sasa,
Perfect timing. Great idea & composition... This would hv been good enough without the tree's reflection, but with the reflection it's even better. Also good choice with partial desaturation, - which highlights the color of the boots. Good work, congratz!

dans cet univers de grisaille ces bottes roses sont un signe d'optimisme pour des jours meilleurs
le reflet de l'arbre, la feuille tombée ...
tout dans cette photo est un message !

Now you can boo me........or not!
Pink on all these greys works well for me - contrasts running like a river through your image - a good haiku image which I may just have to come back too - Pierre says it all!

Hi Sasa,
really nice one. unique composition. you did have good eyes that always can find this common scene and make it not common. really like the pink stick out of the b&w.
