Photographer's Note

When the night is coming, Hutsuls leave the pastures and come down to their homes.

The Hutsul is a highlanders ethnic group of Ukrainian origin. They live in the Carpathian valleys mainly in Zakarpatska Oblast (Region) in south-western Ukraine close to the Romanian border. The group strictly preserves its folklore traditions and rituals which is clearly visible during ceremonies like weddings, funerals and religious holidays.

Most of Hutsuls are sheep shepherds and spend a lot of their time working on vast pastures of Czarnohora mountain chain. Here you can see young Hutsuls as they finish daily activities ready for coming home together with their bigger friends - horses.

The photo has been taken close to the village of Yasinia which was recognized as the Hutsul’s capital in the past. In the distance you can see the mountain chain of Swidowiec covered with snow (May 2006).

What a great note, and a very nice photo, very sharp but may have needed more under exposure with so much sky.
It would look better if you cropped some of the sky out.

Hi Marcin,
this photo has beautiful feeling.The dark silhouettes goes very well together with the background,they don´t disturb each other.
I like the view on the mountains behind the figures.This photo has much to say.
