Roxborough Snow
Roxborough State Park .. south of Denver, Colorado.
Roxborough is a state park of large red rock formations (fins) in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains ...
Andrew and I took our first trip to Roxborough in November .. I put coming back to this place when the red rocks would be covered with snow on my little checklist ..
Thanks to stopping and shooting foggy river pictures on my way down in the morning we didn't get down here until early afternoon .. the winter sun and thick fast moving clouds created all sorts of lighting conditions .. just like the last time I was here ... gave the place all sorts of different moods.

Bonjour John,
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi John
Beautiful place. I like this, especially the tilted rock on the right - it looks almost alive, as it would try to arise...
Great light and colours, only snow in the foreground is a bit too bright ;).

Hi John,
These rocks formation are really amazing, and the way which emerge from the snow is very strong and almost dramatic. I see here the force of the nature, the presence of a time almost eternal. Very beautiful too how the sky and the eart (white the both) frame the mountains. Very well seen!
Angel.

Hi John,
white, white and white (and wide). Excellent composition in three layers with snow, rocks and sky. I like the strong colors and the clear sharpness of the rocks.

Hallo John!
This is an astonishing photo! The huge snow plain lets the mountains hover. I like the mild changeover from the snow to the rocks by these trees and this warm sunlight on the rocks.
A great photo!
Greetings from rainy and grey Germany - and have a nice weekend!

Hi John,
although I like your composition a lot I think I give preference to Caroline's WS. The reason is the overexposure of the snowfield in the foreground. It is to dominant and that beautiful colorful rocks and the gorgeous sky get a little bit lost. Just cropping it away helps a lot.
Taking pictures with sunlight in snowy landscape is a huge challenge. You might try to bracket, or do different layers on PP and blend the different layers together. I know it is a lot of work but at the end you will enjoy the outcome a lot. Another possibility is to approach it with HDR.

Hi John,
The trees put the rocks in proportion, an excellent contrast. Well spotted. I would have cropped the bottom if you dont mind me saying. Regards,

Hi John,
The large red rocks loom up over the snow impressively as the contrast with the blue sky and bits of snow clinging to its surface. Wonderful view in the distance that gives this image nice depth.

Hi John. Caught this shot on your intro page, glad I did. Beautiful sky and wonderful contrast in the colours. You have handled the light well to maintain so much detail and colour. Well composed and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.
