Photographer's Note
Location: This is the Ursa beach located near Cabo da Roca (the western most point of Europe) which is only about 35 kilometers west of Lisbon, however, a pretty strenuous hike is required to reach the beach.
About the Photo: You may recognize this beach from other great photographers here on Treakearth such as lucinka and Rodrigues. However, this beach belongs to luisafonso. His photos of this beach are top notch and truly capture the many different angles and moods of this spectacular beach. To see more photos of this beach by all of the above mentioned members of Trekearth please click here.
Dedication: This photo is dedicated to my good friend Luis Afonso. Who made this visit to the Ursa beach possible, in fact he was standing somewhere to my right when I took this picture. Thanks again Luis for taking me to your beach. I'll never forget everything you did to make my trip to Portugal such a wonderful experience.
P.S. I’ve probably got one or two more photos of the Ursa I can post in the future :)

Hi Ryan,
A great shot from Luis his place.
The colors look like Velvia, and you know that i like that. The framing is very tight, but maybe here the best you could do.
The white rock in the center gives perfect contrast to the other red rocks, and in combination with that beautiful deep blue sky you have a real good one here.
Looking forward to your others from this location.

hi Ryan
for me it's most interesting place in Portugal because of excellent work of photographers you mentioned. I'm used to see it with wide angle lens which usualy I prefer but you achieved something different and this is good in my opinion. great light and composition.
I will wait for more :)
best wishes

And I have a photo of you getting this one... :) Did you received it? This is perfect Euryan. The definition is amazing, as only a L lens is capable when maneuvered by experienced hands like yours. The side light really enhanced the whole scene and this was a pov I never tried till this day. The round rocks in the foreground are wonderful and the depth they provide from here to the Ursa rock is incredible. I love your tight composition. All in the right place, with gorgeous shadows and with several toning in the rocks. The water's foam looks amazing at 1/6. Not bad for your first beach shot, hein? :) Thanks my friend.

You've captured some wonderful colours in this image, Ryan, and the combination of the very deep DOF and slow shutter speed has created a loevly mood to it. Perfect composition, I like the warm side-lighting - excellent work all round. Cheers . . . David

First beach shot? I can't believe. For us, living in Portugal, the sea is always there, so it's not surprising our portfolio are filled with seascapes. But a good photographer is a good photographer, and you are one for sure.
Well, Luis might have mentioned that getting good clouds in that beach it's not an easy task (always clear or clouded), but you managed it well, getting a small portion of the deepest blue on top of the frame.
I thought you used a wide angle, but you fooled me. After all 38mm get you a decent wide angle, al least in your hands.
I'll underline my sadness for not sharing this delightfull moment with you :-( For the rest, as you used us to, top photo.

Hi Ryan,
Yes I've seen the other images from other photographers, and all are very good. Your image here is also excellent with strong colours and lighting. You've included very nice foreground focus points, in the rocks. Overall a powerful image of this beach location. Well done.

This one looks unreal! (I mean that as compliment ;-)
I like the contrast of the smooth rounded foreground rocks and the hard edgy cliffs in the background, especially with that brighter one standing out by its color. The cold toned splashing water is the icing on the cake. Absolutely nothing to nitpick.

Very good photo with excellent color and lighting. Your slow shutter speed gives the water a nice sense of motion. The high f-stop creates a good DOF and sharpness.

Hy Ryan,
I like very much the colour saturation used in this image!
The Cir. Polarizer worked great in the vivid tones got in this lanscape: incredible warm tones on the rocks, and a beautifully gradated blues on the skies.
I'm curious about the small size of your post, any particular reason for that?
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

Great colours, with lots of different hues in those rocks, and of course the contrast between the warm colour of the rocks and the blue of the sky is great too. The rocks have such a dramatic shape that it is impossible not to look at this photo. Excellent!

The right POV, the right light and an interesting exposure time that gives a silky impression but still crisp enough allowing to see the waves coming in. It seems that this beach is a very hot spot in Portugal. I don't know how many versions and interpretations I have already seen at TE during the last year. Its gorgeous and the post certainly worth to be seen. Stunning work, Ryan!

Great one Ryan, especially for your first beach shot. Definitely better than my first (although it was quite overcast, so that didn't help!). You've managed to place the boulders in your composition in such a way that you have a shot with many potential points of interest that doesn't feel crowded or confused. Colors are excellent as well, as always. Take care.

Hello Ryan,
Glad to see that your trip in Europe was with your camera on the shoulder :o)
Your view of this wonderful and magic place is absolutely stunning. The light is purely superb and the tones it gives to the rocks is so good. I especialy like your composition with this well detailled rock in the foreground.
This superb image makes me think I would love to get there on day. Maybe this would be an occasion for a TE meeting in Lisboa?
Come on Lisboa trekkers ;-)
Wish you a nice day.

Hi Ryan, i'm sure you had great moments this end of afternoon with master Luis, two of the best photographers of TE at same place same moment, good to see the result of what you were able to do. For sure it's a fascinating place, and at 1/6 sec you did well, i wished you played longer with the shutter speed but for that you should have waited later time in the day ...
Anyway this is very photogenic and eyes catching.
Congratulations mister, a pearl, once again :)

Hi Ryan,
You said "I wish I had a shot like this" about my photo of Roma but I wish I had done all of yours ! Your gallery is fantastic. I like this one particularly because of vivid colors, mixture of various rough textures, the large DOF, the boulder in foreground and the general composition.
I will consult your gallery regularly for the pleasure of the eyes.

Fantastic depth, you managed to contain 'what's in the beach' than the entire scenery as most photos of the beaches are. Your down-to-earth personality brings out the best in you dude! This is a superb photo of an amazing landscape. The variety of textures and shapes of these rocks is incredible - from smooth round rocks in the foreground to tall rigid rock formations in the background. The POV and composition are excellent giving good DOF and the exposure is wonderful, capturing the gorgeous waves and lighting very well. Nice contrasts between the orange and blue tones and good clarity. Well captured!

This photo came up on my monitor this morning when I opened the TE page. It is so good that it really deserves to have triple digit points. Therefore, here I am making the count go to 100. The light is beautiful, creating wonderful shadows and colours. I really like the colour of the big rock in the BG. And the boulders in the FG are a mus for the sense of depth. Congratulations for the great photo from Portugal.

Hi Ryan,
Wonderful shot! Great detail in the rocks and the clay color of the rocks create a great balance with the blue of the sky. There is a great mixture of textures as well, the foam of the water, with the rough rocks and smooth sky! Nice composition and point of view. And the simple black border makes this shot, pop! Thanks for sharing Ryan, and thanks Luis!

Hi Ryan
Nice picture placed in the right place today in TE!
Congratulations for the low POV, high DOF and stunning colours of the rocks contrasting with the sea and the blue sky. Due to a small aperture, the sea is blurred, giving sense of motion.
Hats off
